Iran rejects US role in future management of Strait of Hormuz
Iran has ruled out any role for the United States in discussions concerning the future management of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, insisting that the matter will be addressed exclusively within a regional framework in cooperation with Oman.
Iran’s state news agency IRNA reports that Tehran has not made any commitments regarding the governance of the key maritime corridor or the restoration of conditions that existed before what it described as military aggression by the United States and Israel.
“Contrary to strange claims circulating in the media, Iran has made no commitments regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz or the restoration of the situation in the waterway to the state that existed before the military aggression of the United States and Israel. At Iran’s request, the United States will play no role in the management of the Strait of Hormuz,” the agency stated.
IRNA said the future framework for managing the vital shipping route would be determined at Tehran’s initiative through regional mechanisms rather than through external involvement.
Oman, which shares the coastline of the strategic waterway with Iran, is expected to be Tehran’s principal partner in any future discussions regarding the management and security of the strait.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as a major route for global energy shipments and international trade.
