Iran slams US as unfair mediator in Gaza, citing weapons supply to Israel
Acting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani has expressed strong opposition to US President Joe Biden's proposed plan to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
He made such remarks in an interview with Newsweek magazine, per Caliber.Az.
Kani criticized the United States for its role as a mediator, arguing that its supply of lethal weapons to Israel undermines its impartiality.
"We do not consider the US an honest mediator on issues related to Palestine and Gaza," Kani stated. He pointed out that the US is the largest supplier of lethal weapons to Israel, which he accused of causing extensive harm to innocent civilians in Gaza and Palestine.
Kani suggested that a genuine commitment to mediation from the US would involve ceasing arms shipments to Israel.
Furthermore, Kani highlighted the constructive roles of Moscow and Beijing in promoting political stability in the Middle East. "We believe that Russia and China are making serious efforts to enhance mutual political trust in the region and are actively working to strengthen economic ties and cooperation," he added.
Kani also called upon the UN Security Council to utilise its capabilities to halt what he described as the "atrocities and killings" perpetrated by Israel. His remarks underscore Iran's stance on the ongoing conflict in Gaza and its perspective on the involvement of global powers in the region.
