Iran warns citizens in Armenia over legal fee exploitation
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Armenia has issued a public advisory warning Iranian nationals about cases of financial exploitation by certain lawyers in the country.
According to the embassy, some individuals — including members of the legal profession — have been charging Iranian citizens involved in court proceedings disproportionately high fees under the pretext of professional services or case support expenses. In several cases, the embassy said, the legal actions carried out did not correspond to the payments received, Caliber.Az reports per Iranian media.
The advisory further stated that some lawyers have made unrealistic promises about the rapid resolution of legal cases, demanded payment without providing transparent, legally binding contracts, and failed to offer clear reports on work performed. The embassy suggested that Iranian nationals unfamiliar with Armenian legal procedures may be particularly vulnerable to such practices.
In response, the embassy urged Iranian citizens in Armenia to verify a lawyer’s credentials, confirm the scope of their legal authority, and clarify fee structures before entering into any agreement. It also advised against making payments without a formal contract outlining services and costs.
The embassy encouraged nationals seeking legal assistance to first consult its consular and legal department for guidance on proper procedures and to help prevent potential abuse.
