Iranian foreign minister calls for broader security guarantees beyond US
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that security guarantees from individual countries are insufficient for Iran, calling on the US to change its approach toward Iran, IRIB reports, citing Al Jazeera.
During the interview, Araghchi stressed that experience shows even guarantees from the UN Security Council are insufficient for Iran, and that several proposals from international partners are under review to determine which mechanisms could be truly effective if the conflict is resolved on Iran’s terms.
Abbas Araghchi emphasised that Tehran does not accept deadlines, prioritising the safety and rights of the Iranian people, adding that no one can impose deadlines on Iran and that artificial constraints only complicate the situation and provide no benefit.
Addressing the United States, Araghchi stressed the need for a change in strategy, noting that the US president must alter his approach and that the Iranian people cannot be spoken to with threats and ultimatums.
He highlighted that the Iranian people are great, independent, and possess a rich civilisation and culture, and warned that they must be addressed with respect, or they will respond on the battlefield.
