Israel announces major military action to eradicate terrorism in Jordan Valley
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced the launch of a large-scale counter-terrorism operation in the Jordan Valley, named Iron Wall.
The operation, conducted by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the Israel General Security Service (Shin Bet/Shabak), and the Israel Police, is aimed at eradicating terrorism in the region, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
According to a statement from Netanyahu’s office, the operation is being led by the political security cabinet, with an emphasis on a methodical and decisive approach against the Axis of Resistance.
"This is another step toward achieving the goal we have set - to strengthen security in Judea and Samaria. We are acting systematically and decisively against the Iranian axis wherever it extends its reach - in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Judea, and Samaria," Netanyahu wrote.
The Israeli military is targeting various factions that have been using the region to launch attacks, taking strong measures to eliminate these threats.
This announcement comes after reports that the Palestinian militant group Hamas regained control of the Gaza Strip, following the retreat of Israeli troops as part of a ceasefire agreement. Hamas has since mobilized thousands of fighters on the streets, reaffirming its dominance in the area.
The operation began shortly after Israel and the Hamas militant group reached an agreement on a ceasefire and the mutual release of hostages.
The ceasefire agreement came into effect on January 19. On the same day, Hamas militants released three female hostages, while Israel committed to releasing 90 Palestinian prisoners.
