Trump pauses planned 50% tariffs on Canadian imports
U.S. President Donald Trump said he has paused the planned 50% tariffs on Canadian imports for three days, citing progress toward a new agreement between the United States and Canada.
Trump said on Truth Social that the two countries had reached a deal, subject to the finalization of documents. He also suggested that the long-stalled Keystone XL oil pipeline could be revived, Caliber.Az reports.
"The great Keystone XL Pipeline, long ago killed by Sleepy Joe Biden, may be awoken from the grave!" he wrote.
In July, Trump signed a proclamation imposing additional 50% tariffs on a broad range of Canadian goods, including wine, ice hockey sticks and cement.
The measures were initially scheduled to take effect one month after the proclamation, allowing time for further negotiations between Washington and Ottawa.
