Moldova condemns Russian strike on Starokozache border checkpoint

Moldova’s Foreign Ministry has condemned Russia’s latest attacks on Ukraine, including a strike on the Starokozache border checkpoint that left people dead and injured, according to a statement published by the ministry on Facebook.

The ministry said it “strongly condemns” the Russian Federation’s attacks on Ukraine, which last night targeted, among other areas, a location in the immediate vicinity of Moldova’s border, near the Tudora (Republic of Moldova) – Starokozache (Ukraine) border crossing.

“As a result of these attacks, deaths and injuries have been reported, including among Ukrainian border guards. We extend our sincere condolences to the families of those killed and wish a speedy recovery to those injured,” the statement said.

Ukrainian authorities also confirmed that Russian strike drones hit the Starokozache international road border crossing in Odesa region overnight on September 9, 2026, damaging infrastructure and vehicles while sparking fires. According to the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, two civilians were killed and three injured near the checkpoint, with rescuers evacuating 16 others to safety; operations at the crossing were temporarily suspended.
