Israel confirms airstrike on Hezbollah weapons depot in southern Beirut
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has confirmed a recent airstrike targeting a Hezbollah underground weapons storage facility in the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh.
After several days of refraining from operations in the Lebanese capital, Israeli Air Force jets, guided by intelligence operatives, carried out the strike, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.
Ahead of the operation, the IDF took measures to prevent civilian casualties by issuing an evacuation order for the area.
IDF spokesperson Avichai Adraee called on residents of the southern suburb of Beirut to evacuate immediately, warning that the targeted sites were affiliated with Hezbollah. The Israeli military's warning on October 16 signalled an imminent attack on Hezbollah-linked locations.
In addition to this strike, the IDF has also announced the killing of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, head of Hamas’s drone operations in northern Gaza, during an airstrike. Al-Mabhouh was responsible for orchestrating drone attacks on Israel and Israeli forces in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Israeli troops have engaged in combat with Hamas operatives in Jabalia and conducted drone strikes in Rafah against terrorists planning further attacks.
These events follow Israel’s broader operation, “Northern Arrows,” launched on September 23 against Hezbollah forces, which included airstrikes targeting the group’s military assets. Hezbollah's leader, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in one such airstrike in Beirut on September 27, a significant development in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
After this, Israel initiated a ground operation in southern Lebanon, further escalating tensions in the region.
