Israel unleashes "Strength and Sword" operation in Gaza, targeting Hamas
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have launched a new operation in the Gaza Strip, dubbed "Strength and Sword" targeting Hamas militants.
The operation, which began with an airstrike last night, was designed to deliver a heavy blow to the Hamas leadership and its infrastructure, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.
The strike was the result of months of preparation, with coordinated efforts from the IDF and Israel's domestic security service, Shin Bet. The primary goal was to maximise the damage to Hamas in the initial wave, striking as many members as possible.
A key factor in the success of the operation was the disruption of daily life in Gaza due to the ongoing observance of Ramadan, which has affected the routines of both civilians and militants alike.
The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and Military Intelligence Directorate compiled a list of addresses where Hamas members were expected to gather for their nightly meals.
The mission of the General Security Service and the Israeli Air Force (IAF) was to ensure that, during the first wave of attacks, dozens of planes and drones simultaneously dropped hundreds of bombs on these targets where Hamas members were located in Gaza. On March 18 at exactly 2:20 a.m. (GMT+2), the order to launch the attack was given. The operation was led by IDF Chief of Staff, Major General Eyal Zamir, IAF Commander Major General Tomer Bar, and Israeli intelligence officer Ronen Bar.
