Israel urges France, UK to deter Iranian aggression
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has held a meeting in Jerusalem with his counterparts from the UK, David Lammy, and France, Stéphane Séjourné, who were in Israel on an official visit.
A key topic of discussion was the threat of a possible attack on Israel by Iran, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.
During the meeting, Katz made it clear to the French and UK’s foreign ministers that Israel expects both France and the UK to publicly communicate to Iran that any attack on Israel is strictly prohibited.
Katz emphasised that in case of an Iranian assault, a coalition led by the US would join Israel not only in defence but also in launching retaliatory strikes against key targets in Iran.
He warned that Iran must understand that if it does not cease its direct aggression and the proxy war it is waging against Israel, it will face significant strategic and economic consequences. This is the only way to prevent a full-scale war.
The Israeli minister also cautioned that Israel will be unable to refrain from delivering a decisive response to any attack.
The situation in the Middle East has sharply escalated following the death of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, in Tehran, and the assassination of Fuad Shukr, a commander of Hezbollah's military wing, in Beirut. Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah have blamed Israel for these incidents and have vowed to retaliate.
