Israeli air forces kill senior Hezbollah commander in Southern Lebanon
An Israeli airstrike has killed Muhammad Ali Jamoul, a senior Hezbollah commander, in the Deir al-Zahrani area of southern Lebanon, according to the Israel Defence Forces (IDF).
Jamoul was identified by the IDF as the head of Hezbollah’s rocket and missile unit in the Shaqif region, which includes the area surrounding Beaufort Castle, Caliber.Az reports per the IDF statement.
In the statement, the IDF claimed Jamoul was responsible for planning multiple rocket attacks targeting Israeli territory and military forces during the ongoing conflict. The military also accused him of playing a key role in attempts to rebuild Hezbollah's military infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
“The actions of the terrorist Mohammad Ali Jamoul constituted a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon. The IDF will continue to act to eliminate any threat to the State of Israel,” the statement reads.
The incident is the latest in a series of cross-border escalations amid heightened tensions along the Israel-Lebanon frontier.
