Israeli FM, EP speaker discuss joint opposition to Iran
Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen arrived in Brussels on May 2, where he met with European Parliament Speaker Roberta Metsola.
One of the main topics of their meeting was joint opposition to Iran, including the prospect of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, Iran's elite military units) being added to the European list of terrorist organisations, TASS reported.
"I met with the president of the European Parliament. Europe understands the dangers of Iran's reign of terror better than ever," Cohen wrote on his Twitter page.
"We discussed ways to promote a determined fight against Iran's nuclear plans, with an emphasis on expanding economic and political sanctions. In addition, we discussed the inclusion of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on the European Union's list of terrorist organisations," he added.
In addition, Cohen said, during his visit to Brussels on May 2, he met with European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Oliver Varhelyi, and the topic of their conversation was the funding that the EU is giving to the Palestinian authorities.
"We agreed that the Union would not transfer funds to the PA that would consequently be used for incitement. I explained that we are not opposed to humanitarian aid but we will not allow money to go indirectly to factors that encourage incitement and terrorism," Cohen wrote on Twitter.
