Israeli military concludes operation in Southern Gaza, destroys over thousand sites VIDEO
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have announced the completion of a military operation carried out by troops of the 188th Armored Brigade in the area of Khirbat Ikhzaa, located in the southern Gaza Strip.
According to the IDF's statement, the operation aimed to “expand the security zone adjacent to communities in the Western Negev,” Caliber.Az reports.
IDF notes that the area had been used as a stronghold by Hamas, and many of those involved in the October 7 attack reportedly passed through this region. The military stated that its forces targeted and dismantled infrastructure used by the group, both above and below ground.
Throughout the course of the operation, the IDF reported eliminating several combatants and dismantling more than 1,200 sites, including weapons storage facilities and underground passages. One such tunnel, measuring approximately 500 meters in length and 25 meters deep, was located and destroyed with the assistance of the Yahalom engineering unit.
The Israeli military emphasised that these actions were part of broader efforts to “ensure the security of the civilians.”
Operations in Gaza are expected to continue, the IDF said.
