Israeli military takes out IRGC weapons chief in nighttime strike
During the night, Israeli Air Force fighter jets, acting on precise intelligence, targeted and killed Behnam Shahriyari, commander of the Al-Quds Force’s weapons transfer unit within Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) announced the strike on their Telegram channel, Caliber.Az reports.
“Shahriyari was killed in his car more than 1,000 kilometres from Israel while travelling through western Iran,” the statement said.
It also stated that Shahriari was responsible for orchestrating all arms deliveries from Iran to its proxy groups throughout the Middle East. For many years, he played a key role in supplying various terrorist organisations as part of Tehran’s plan to destroy the State of Israel.
The IDF noted, “Shahriyari worked directly with Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthi terrorist regime, and other groups, providing rockets and missiles — many of which have been launched at Israel during the current conflict.”
Beyond arms transfers, Shahriyari “oversaw the transfer of hundreds of millions of dollars annually to terrorist organisations through his extensive network of front companies, money changers, and couriers operating in Türkiye and Lebanon.”
He also “led large-scale efforts to finance and arm these groups — efforts that have resulted in the deaths and injuries of numerous Israeli civilians and soldiers,” the statement added.
