Israeli PM compares laser and conventional missile defense system shot costs
A shot from the Iron Beam laser missile defence system, which Israel plans to deploy next year to block enemy missiles and drones, will cost $2, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, quoted by the Jewish News Syndicate as saying.
“If it costs terrorists $20,000 to fire a missile at Israel and $100,000 to intercept that missile, then Israel’s new Iron Beam laser system will be able to intercept that missile at $2 per shot,” Bennett tweeted.
The Iron Beam is a tactical Israeli missile defence system designed to intercept and destroy ultra-short-range missiles at ranges up to 7 km. The system is designed to destroy artillery shells, artillery mines and short-range missiles. Also, the system will be able to destroy small drones. Iron Beam destroys targets by irradiating them for 5 seconds.
