Israeli air strikes injure Red Cross rescuers in Lebanon
Four rescue workers of the Lebanese Red Cross staff have been injured in a strike by the Israeli Defense Forces in the south of the country during a search and rescue operation.
“Following the airstrike on a house in Sirbine in South Lebanon on Sunday 13th of October at 8am, Lebanese Red Cross ambulance teams were dispatched to the scene in coordination with UNIFIL,” Caliber.Az reports, citing the X page of the Red Cross.
“As the team was searching for casualties to rescue, the house was hit for a second time resulting in concussions to the volunteers and damage to the two ambulances. The lightly injured volunteers were transported to a hospital and are in good condition,” the publication says.
It added that Lebanese Red Cross volunteers should be protected at all times while attempting to rescue casualties.
Rescue workers and teams sent to Israeli strike sites in the south and Bekaa are regularly targeted by the Israeli army. Since the start of the war on October 8, 2023, more than 100 doctors and rescue workers have been killed in Israeli strikes, according to the United Nations Human Rights Office.
