Israeli strikes on Gaza kill 30, including journalist's family
On July 20, Israeli forces intensified their offensive in the Gaza Strip, killing at least 30 Palestinians, including journalist Mohammad Abu Jasser, his wife, and two children in an airstrike on their home.
This brings the number of Palestinian media personnel killed since October 7 to 161, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Israeli military strikes over the past 24 hours killed 37 Palestinians and destroyed several houses. In the Al-Nuseirat camp, an airstrike on a multi-story building wounded several, including two journalists.
In Rafah, Israeli tanks advanced deeper into northern areas, engaging in fierce battles with Hamas fighters. The Israeli army reported eliminating numerous gunmen and conducting raids on militant infrastructure in central Gaza. A strike in Deir Al-Balah targeted a structure allegedly used by militants operating from a humanitarian area, a claim Hamas denies.
Efforts for a ceasefire, led by Qatar and Egypt with U.S. backing, have failed amid mutual blame. Israel has vowed to eradicate Hamas following an October 7 attack that killed 1,200 Israelis and resulted in over 250 hostages. Gaza health authorities report 38,919 Palestinian deaths since the offensive began.
