Jordan thwarts Iranian missile salvo targeting its airspace
Jordanian air defence systems, backed by aircraft from the Royal Air Force, intercepted and destroyed 20 missiles launched from Iran toward the Azraq region in Zarqa Governorate in the early hours of June 11, a military source from the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army said.
The interception was part of ongoing efforts to protect Jordanian airspace and counter potential threats arising from developments in the region, Caliber.Az reports, citing Jordan News Agency Petra.
According to the source, debris from the intercepted missiles fell in the area, but no casualties or property damage were recorded.
Specialised engineering teams were dispatched to secure the sites and handle the missile remnants, ensuring that no unexploded ordnance was left behind.
The source noted that the Jordan Armed Forces are closely monitoring regional developments and remain at the highest level of operational preparedness to address any emerging security challenges.
He reiterated the military’s commitment to safeguarding the Kingdom’s airspace, defending its sovereignty, and preserving the security and territorial integrity of Jordan.
The source also stressed that any breach of Jordanian airspace would be met with a firm response, adding that the armed forces will continue carrying out their responsibilities to guarantee the safety and security of the Kingdom.
