Kazakhstan, Iran set to bolster relations
On July 22, Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev reached out to Iranian president-elect Masoud Pezeshkian to congratulate him on his victory in the July election.
During their telephone conversation, Tokayev and Pezeshkian reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Iran, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
They discussed various avenues for deepening cooperation, including commercial-economic ties, transportation, and logistics, as well as cultural and humanitarian initiatives. Additionally, they exchanged views on regional and international issues.
Pezeshkian secured a decisive win in the election, garnering 16,384,403 votes, while his opponent, Saeed Jalili, received 13,538,179 votes, according to Mohsen Eslami, spokesperson for Iran's election headquarters. The election, held on June 28, saw Pezeshkian and Jalili emerge as the leading candidates, with Pezeshkian's victory marked by a margin of over two million votes.
Pezeshkian is set to succeed Ebrahim Raisi, who tragically died in a helicopter crash in Iran’s north-western mountainous region on May 19.
