Kazakhstan pledges active role in SCO amid regional economic stability
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev affirmed that Kazakhstan intends to take an active role in the activities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) during a forum marking International Neutrality Day and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.
President Tokayev described the SCO as an authoritative and successful Eurasian organisation with a broad and constructive agenda, including measures aimed at enhancing security and building mutual confidence among member states, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh media.
Speaking on the state of the global economy, he noted that it has faced significant challenges from growing geopolitical tensions, international sanctions, disruptions in trade and supply chains, and increasing technological competition.
Despite these difficulties, Tokayev highlighted that Central Asia has largely avoided economic stagnation, with all countries in the region maintaining relatively steady growth.
He pointed out that Kazakhstan’s economic growth for the year is expected to exceed 6%, with the country’s gross domestic product surpassing $300 billion, translating to more than $15,000 per capita.
