Kazakhstan ratifies green energy partnership with Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan
Kazakhstan’s Senate ratified a strategic partnership agreement on the production and transmission of green energy with Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan during a plenary session on April 9.
The agreement aims to establish a strategic partnership based on legal equality, strengthening cooperation in clean energy and energy efficiency, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.
It also outlines joint projects for the production and trade of environmentally friendly hydrogen and ammonia, as well as the creation of unified technical and administrative standards to ensure reliable cross-border renewable electricity transmission.
Key provisions of the agreement include:
-
Establishing technical and commercial conditions among the parties to guarantee reliable and uninterrupted transmission of green electricity, implementing new energy-efficiency technologies, and developing infrastructure for energy exports to Europe and other regions.
-
Supporting the expansion of domestic power grids and exploring potential connections to the Black Sea Energy submarine transmission line.
-
Creating a parity-based steering committee (meeting at least twice a year) and a working group to develop annual cooperation plans.
-
Maintaining confidentiality of shared information and establishing dispute-resolution procedures through consultations and negotiations.
According to the document, “The ratification of this agreement will contribute to strengthening energy security, diversifying transit routes, and supporting sustainable economic growth in Kazakhstan through the export of low-carbon products. The adoption of this law will not entail negative socio-economic or legal consequences, nor will it require additional financial expenditures from the national budget.”
