Kobakhidze calls European Parliament’s actions “shameful” over Georgia report
Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has described the European Parliament’s conduct as “shameful” after it backed a new report on the country.
The document, prepared by Lithuanian MEP Rasa Juknevičienė, expresses the European Parliament’s solidarity with the Georgian people, who it says continue the struggle for a European and democratic Georgia amid what it describes as democratic backsliding by the authorities, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
It also welcomes the launch of the OSCE’s Moscow Mechanism and mentions the possible suspension of visa liberalisation for all Georgian citizens.
The prime minister said the discussion of visa liberalisation is nothing but an attack on the Georgian people.
“It is shameful that the European bureaucracy is placing itself in such a position. When the European Parliament attacks the Georgian people and media freedom in our country, it does not even require any assessment,” he noted.
According to him, Georgia is ready for an open dialogue on all issues.
“Over four years, there have been five attempts at revolutions financed from abroad; we passed laws, and the country stabilised,” the prime minister added.
