Kremlin affirms credibility of Russian intelligence reports on Armenia
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has underscored that statements issued by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) should not be dismissed as unfounded.
Peskov was responding to SVR reports suggesting that Armenia intends to support Ukraine by purchasing a portion of its grain supplies, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
“Reports from the SVR are never baseless. We continue to develop our cooperation both bilaterally and within the framework of integration processes. Frequent contacts at the highest levels are ongoing. There are numerous issues on the agenda of our bilateral cooperation, and we hope this engagement will continue,” Peskov said, emphasizing the importance of ongoing dialogue between the two countries.
According to the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Armenia, citing political considerations, is seeking to distance itself from Moscow and assist Ukraine by purchasing a portion of its grain from Kyiv.
The announcement comes amid growing trade diversification efforts by Armenia. The Armenian Prime Minister recently confirmed that new requests have been made to import goods from Russia via a railway route passing through Azerbaijan.
Russia’s Ministry of Transport reports that 132 railcars of Russian wheat are scheduled to reach Armenia through Azerbaijan and Georgia by the end of January 2026, highlighting the logistical adjustments accompanying Armenia’s evolving trade strategy.
