Kremlin explains Putin’s military uniform choice during Kursk visit
Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to wear a military uniform during his recent visit to the headquarters in the Kursk region has been clarified by the Kremlin.
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, addressed questions surrounding Putin’s attire during a briefing, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
When asked why Putin was seen wearing a military uniform, Peskov explained, “You know, he is a colonel. I don’t know what to answer.”
His comments referred to Putin's military rank, which many believe justifies the president’s choice of attire during visits to military sites.
In a separate development, Peskov also confirmed that US negotiators on the Ukrainian conflict are en route to Russia for scheduled talks.
The Kremlin spokesperson stated that the meetings would take place on March 13, though he refrained from giving further details.
"Indeed, the negotiators are flying, indeed, contacts are planned. We will not get ahead of ourselves, we will tell you later," Peskov said.
On March 12, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that Steve Witkoff, the US President’s special envoy, would travel to Moscow this week to discuss the settlement of the Ukraine conflict.
According to the flight tracking service Flightradar, the plane took off from Hamad International Airport in Doha. As of 12:00, the aircraft began its descent and entered the Moscow airspace from the Smolensk region before landing in the Russian capital.
The discussions between Russian and US officials on the ongoing Ukraine situation come amid heightened global attention on the war and efforts to seek a resolution.
