Landslide in northern Türkiye: Three homes, barn destroyed Photo
A landslide in the Türkeli district of Sinop, Türkiye has resulted in the destruction of three houses and one barn.
Four individuals trapped under the debris were rescued and taken to hospital with injuries, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
The landslide occurred around 11:40 PM in the Düzköy area of Türkeli. Following the incident, teams from AFAD, gendarmerie, fire services, health, UMKE, Special Administration, local authorities, and the Forestry Organisation were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the teams initially identified two injured individuals, who were provided with first aid before being sent to hospital. They also discovered two more people trapped under the rubble of a collapsed house. Although the risk of further landslides remains in the area, reinforcement teams of 20 personnel were sent from Samsun and Kastamonu.
After nearly two hours of work, the trapped couple was rescued from the rubble and transferred to the hospital. The injured are reported to be conscious, and the teams continue to carry out assessments in the area. (DHA)
To recall, a devastating landslide struck the Arhavi district in Türkiye's Artvin province on December 8, 2024, killing four people. The incident, which occurred around 3:30 a.m., buried a car on the coastal highway, causing the closure of the Black Sea coastal road. Rescue teams recovered the victims' bodies the following day.
Expert analyses suggest the landslide was triggered by a magnitude 4.7 earthquake that hit Rize on 15 November. Professor Dr. Hakan Ersoy, a geological engineer, linked the tremors to subsequent landslides in the region, highlighting the need for further studies on earthquake-related landslides along the Eastern Black Sea coast.
