Latvia records warmest March on record, ties 2007
March 2026 was Latvia’s warmest March on record, matching the previous high set in 2007, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC).
The country-wide average temperature in March reached +4.4°C, exceeding the historical norm by 4.2°C. Temperatures were consistently above average throughout the month, with the lowest recorded at −8.4°C on March 8 in Daugavpils, and the highest reaching +17.9°C on March 29 at the same station, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
A total of 123 daily temperature records were broken in March, including five new national records.
March also brought unusually dry conditions. The nationwide average precipitation was just 6.1 millimetres, or 17% of the monthly norm, making it the fourth driest March since records began in 1924.
Experts warn that such extremes in warmth and drought could signal ongoing climate shifts affecting the Baltic region.
