Lebanese president condemns killing of journalist in Israeli strike
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has expressed condolences over the death of journalist Amal Khalil, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon, and wished a swift recovery for her colleague Zeinab Faraj, who was seriously wounded in the same incident.
In a post on X, Aoun accused Israel of “deliberate and consistent targeting of journalists,” saying it was aimed at “concealing the truth of its aggressive acts against Lebanon," Caliber.Az reports per foregn media.
He added that such actions constitute “crimes against humanity punishable under international laws and conventions”, and said Khalil’s killing should serve as “an incentive for the international community to intervene and put an end to them”.
The president also extended condolences to Khalil’s family, the Al Akhbar newspaper, and Lebanon’s wider media community, describing her as having “joined the caravan of martyred journalists who preceded her on the path of martyrdom in the land of the South”.
According to earlier reports, Khalil—who worked for the Lebanese newspaper Al Akhbar—was killed while carrying out reporting duties during an Israeli strike on April 22. She is reported to be the fourth media worker killed by Israeli strikes in Lebanon since March.
