Lebanese president conducts diplomatic outreach to contain escalation with Israel
Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun has been actively engaging with international leaders in recent days as part of efforts to curb Israeli escalation and prevent the spread of attacks, the country’s Minister of Information, Dr. Paul Morcos, confirmed.
Speaking to Al-Jadeed television, Morcos said the president had communicated with several global leaders, including the President of France. He noted that the U.S. ambassador and a number of European officials have also been involved in ongoing diplomatic contacts, Caliber.Az reports via Lebanese media.
"These communications come within the framework of ongoing diplomatic efforts and sustained international mobilization to contain Israeli escalation," Morcos said.
Morcos added that the president’s initiatives are complemented by the activities of the prime minister, Lebanese ambassadors, and heads of diplomatic missions abroad, all engaged in intensive outreach as part of a collective effort to reduce tensions. He emphasised that protecting critical infrastructure and vital facilities remains a central goal of these diplomatic efforts.
Addressing Lebanon’s growing displacement crisis, Morcos reported that approximately 760,000 people have been displaced, including around 123,000 individuals in roughly 540 shelters, representing nearly 31,500 families. He said the government is working to provide essential food and relief supplies, though detailed figures remain under the purview of the Ministry of Social Affairs.
Morcos also highlighted the positive response of international organisations to ministerial coordination meetings, which aim to bolster Lebanon’s capacity to manage the crisis.
He outlined key points from recent government meetings, noting that the health minister presented an overview of the medical situation and reassured participants about the sector’s ability to continue operating despite attacks on hospitals and ambulance teams.
"These attacks have only strengthened the commitment of healthcare workers to their humanitarian and professional duties," Morcos said.
Other ministers, including those of social affairs, agriculture, energy, and economy, provided updates on agricultural production and confirmed the availability of local products. Efforts are underway to ensure that fruits and vegetables are included in meals provided to displaced families.
