"We were pleased to host Ungaro, Gualdaroni, and their team. Their visit to our centres underlines the growing collaboration between our countries, particularly in technology and defence sectors," said a spokesperson from the Özdemir Bayraktar National Technology Center.
The delegation was shown around the facilities, which are central to Türkiye's aerospace development efforts. The Çorlu Flight Training and Test Center, known for its state-of-the-art equipment and training programmes, played a key role in the discussions during the visit.
“We look forward to expanding our cooperation and strengthening our ties with Türkiye, particularly in the aerospace industry," Ungaro commented.
Notably, Baykar Technologies, the world leader in armed unmanned aerial vehicle (UCAV) exports, has entered into a strategic partnership with Italian defence giant Leonardo on March 6. The two companies will collaborate on the design, development, and production of unmanned systems in Italy, marking a significant step forward in the global unmanned aviation market.
The collaboration combines Baykar’s expertise in UCAVs and artificial intelligence (AI) with Leonardo’s strong capabilities in mission systems, payloads, and aerospace certification. This joint venture, based in Italy, will also extend into space technologies, positioning both companies to benefit from synergies in the burgeoning space sector.
Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto attended the signing ceremony in Rome, where the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formalised by Baykar Chairman Selçuk Bayraktar and Leonardo CEO Roberto Cingolani. The joint venture’s focus includes unmanned fighters, surveillance drones, and deep strike platforms, with the European unmanned systems market expected to reach $100 billion in the next decade.
Both companies are set to jointly pursue international market opportunities, capitalising on their combined technological strengths. Baykar's leadership in UCAV exports and Leonardo's cutting-edge capabilities in C4I systems and AI are expected to drive next-generation unmanned aerial systems and establish a new international player in the sector.
The partnership will leverage facilities in multiple Italian cities, including Ronchi dei Legionari, Torino, and Nerviano, for the development of these advanced systems.
