Lithuania pledges over $200 million in military aid to Ukraine for 2025

13 April 2025 11:38

Lithuanian Minister of National Defence Dovilė Šakalienė has announced that Lithuania will provide 200 million euros ($227 million) in military assistance to Ukraine in 2025, reinforcing its long-term commitment to supporting Kyiv.

“Our country’s commitments for this year amount to 110 million euros [$124 million] in military aid to Ukraine. With additional funding, this figure will reach 200 million euros by the end of the year,” Šakalienė told journalists, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

The aid package will prioritize Ukraine’s most urgent defense needs, the minister noted. Of the total amount, 30 million euros ($34 million) is earmarked for critical items agreed upon with Ukrainian officials. This includes 20 million euros ($22 million) for ammunition procurement, 7 million euros ($7.9 million) for short-range electronic systems, and 3 million euros ($3.4 million) to support NATO-led security and military training missions.

Lithuania has been one of Ukraine’s staunchest supporters since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. In 2024, Vilnius committed to allocating 0.25 per cent of its national GDP annually to support Ukraine’s defense and security sectors — a contribution amounting to roughly 190 million euros per year.

Ukraine has received extensive military assistance from dozens of countries around the world. The US remains the largest donor, providing tens of billions of dollars in military aid, including advanced weapons systems like HIMARS, Patriot missile systems, and Abrams tanks. European nations have also played a key role.

Germany, the UK, and France have supplied a wide range of equipment—from Leopard and Challenger tanks to air defense systems and long-range missiles. Poland and the Baltic states, including Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, have been among the most vocal and active supporters, contributing significant portions of their defense budgets to assist Ukraine. In addition to lethal aid, many countries have supported Ukraine with training programmes, non-lethal supplies such as medical equipment and protective gear, and funding for NATO-coordinated missions.
