Lithuania sends new military aid package to Ukraine, including generators, weaponry
Vilnius has delivered a new consignment of military equipment and supplies to Ukraine, according to a statement from the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence.
"This week, generators for the Ukrainian army, spare parts for M113 armoured vehicles, various types of weaponry, and their components were delivered to Ukraine," the ministry announced, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
Earlier this year, Lithuania responded to Ukraine's requests by supplying 155mm ammunition, M113 armoured vehicles, anti-drone systems, winter gear, warm clothing, ammunition for Carl Gustaf anti-tank grenade launchers, RISE-1 remote detonation systems, generators, loaders, trailers, and other related equipment.
Since the onset of Russia's military operations in Ukraine, Lithuania has provided over €705 million in military aid to Kyiv.
The ministry also emphasised that Lithuania's overall support for Ukraine is a long-term commitment, with the total assistance now exceeding €1 billion.
Meanwhile, EU Parliament President Roberta Metsola has urged Germany to provide long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine amid escalating Russian aggression. Metsola highlighted that "time matters" for Ukraine as Russian attacks on cities intensify, and stressed that the European Parliament broadly supports such a move.
Calls for Germany to act have intensified since the US approved Ukraine’s use of ATACMS long-range missiles against Russian targets earlier this month. However, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz remains opposed, citing fears of Germany’s deeper involvement in the conflict.
With federal elections approaching in February, the debate could take a new turn. Friedrich Merz, the centre-right CDU/CSU candidate and a frontrunner to succeed Scholz, has expressed conditional support for delivering Taurus missiles.
Some coalition partners in Scholz’s Social Democratic Party also appear open to the idea, but the chancellor has reiterated his firm stance against it.
