Lithuania to send thousands of drones to Ukraine to support its war efforts
Lithuania will provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with 4,500 units of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), as announced by Dovilė Šakalienė, the Lithuanian Defense Minister.
“I am proud to share that Lithuania is sending 4,500 drones worth 5 million euros to Ukraine this week. In addition, during the last Government meeting, we approved a new faster procedure for transferring state assets. These changes will significantly reduce the time required for procedures, ensuring that aid reaches Ukraine faster,” Caliber.Az quotes the minister as saying on X.
Šakalienė added, "Lithuania stands with Ukraine!"
For the record, Lithuania has been a steadfast supporter of Ukraine since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. As of June 2023, Lithuania's total military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine amounted to $812 million in military aid and $110 million in humanitarian aid, representing 1.43% of its GDP.
In 2024, Lithuania continued its support by providing an additional €153 million in aid to Ukraine. This included €10 million for the production of the Palanytsia drone missile system, as well as radars, demining equipment, and short-range air defence systems.
