Lithuania to send Ukraine dozens of missiles for RBS-70 portable systems
Lithuania will supply Ukraine with 30 missiles for the man-portable RBS-70 surface-to-air missile system to enhance the country’s air defence capabilities, said Lithuanian Defence Minister Robertas Kaušas.
The minister said the missiles are “urgently needed by Ukraine” and will help strengthen protection of Ukrainian airspace, Caliber.Az reports, citing Lithuanian media.
Kaušas also noted that during the severe cold in January–February 2026, Lithuania had already delivered 90 generators to Ukraine worth over €2 million. New shipments of energy equipment are now being prepared, including diesel generators, transformers, electric motors, and other equipment to restore power infrastructure.
The RBS-70 is a Swedish man-portable short-range air defence system produced by Saab Bofors Dynamics. The system is equipped with a laser guidance system and is resistant to heat decoys and electronic countermeasures. It can engage targets at ranges of 5–8 km and altitudes of 3–5 km.
Each system is operated by a two-person team. In terms of capabilities, the RBS-70 fills the niche between light man-portable air-defence systems (MANPADS) and larger vehicle-mounted air defence systems.
