London to host second IEA-COP29 High-Level Dialogue
“International Energy Agency (IEA) – COP29” second High-Level Dialogue will be held in London on June 24.
IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said via social networks that the meeting, in which he will participate as a co-chair along with Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev, will be organised by the City of London Corporation as part of London Climate Action Week, Caliber.Az reports citing the local media.
“The leaders in energy, climate and finance will focus on the ways of increasing investments in clean energy, especially in emerging and developing countries,” Birol wrote.
According to the information published on the IEA’s website, the dialogues, co-chaired by Birol and Babayev in close partnership with the secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, are aimed at continuing to create international consensus on the ways to develop energy, reduce emissions to zero and limit global warming to 1.5 °C.
Baku will host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
A group of Eastern European countries has chosen Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to host COP29 climate talks next year.
Earlier, Bulgaria withdrew its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in favour of Azerbaijan.
Moreover, Baku and Yerevan agreed to support each other at some international venues. In a joint statement, Armenia said it would support Azerbaijan's bid to host the COP29 summit.
The conference is being held in rotation by five UN regional groups, and Eastern Europe will take part next year.
