London warns Moscow: UK tracking submarine moves in Atlantic “We see you, we see your activity”
Defence Secretary John Healey has warned that the UK government is ready to respond if Russia continues threatening British undersea assets in the Atlantic.
Healey noted increased Russian activity in the northern Atlantic, with British forces detecting an Akula-class attack submarine, two specialised deep-sea research submarines, and the intelligence-gathering ship Yantar, Caliber.Az reports per British media.
The defence chief emphasised that these vessels were reportedly ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin to conduct hybrid warfare against the UK and its allies, including around critical undersea infrastructure.
British operations to track Russian submarines involved over 500 personnel and lasted more than a month. Healey said no damage to UK cables or pipelines was found.
“To President Putin, I say - we see you, we see your activity over our cables and our pipelines, and you should know that any attempt to damage them will not be tolerated and will have serious consequences,” the minister stressed.
