Macron says Ukraine war could end ahead of 2027 French election
French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed confidence that a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine could be struck as early as next year, before France’s next presidential election.
On November 17, during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Macron was questioned about whether his potential successor would back Ukraine as strongly as he has, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
“I believe we will achieve peace before 2027,” Macron replied.
He emphasised that France, alongside its allies, intends to continue exerting pressure on Russia to bring the conflict to an end.
Macron said that Europeans are united with the Americans and determined to confront Russia, adding that efforts are being stepped up to strengthen actions against Russia’s "shadow fleet".
He also suggested that the candidate contesting the presidency could potentially be even more resolute in supporting Ukraine. “When you face reality, reality changes perspectives,” he added.
The European Commission has planned financial aid for Ukraine for 2026 and 2027, assuming that the Russian war against Ukraine will conclude by the end of 2026.
According to the Commission, Ukraine will require over €71 billion in external financing in 2026.
