Magnitude 5.3 earthquake jolts northern Japan

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Japan’s northern Hokkaido region on July 28, shaking parts of eastern Hidaka and southern Tokachi, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
The tremor, which occurred at a depth of 50 kilometers, registered a 4 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale in the most affected areas. While the quake startled residents, no casualties or structural damage have been reported so far, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Authorities confirmed there is no risk of a tsunami. Transportation services in the region are continuing to operate normally.
