Major cyberattack hits Moldova healthcare database affecting millions of records
A large-scale cyberattack has compromised approximately one-third of Moldova’s national healthcare database, which contains personal and payment information.
The country’s Cybersecurity Agency confirmed that the attack targeted a major platform used by both regional and central hospitals, Caliber.Az reports per Moldovan media.
Authorities said no ransom demands have been received so far. While investigators have not ruled out the possibility of a coordinated operation, the case remains under active investigation.
Ion Vintila, deputy director of the Cybersecurity Agency, said that attacks on critical infrastructure have been recorded since the beginning of the year, but described the latest incident as the most serious to date.
“Over the past month, there was a large-scale attack on the medical database. About 30% of the information was compromised. This is a major platform containing data from regional and central hospitals, as well as payment and personal data,” he noted.
The agency said external coordination is a possibility but stressed that there is no official confirmation at this stage.
The Prosecutor General’s Office and police authorities stated that no formal complaints have yet been filed regarding the incident. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and the National Health Insurance Company are assessing the potential scale of the damage and impact on services.
