Media: Dismembered body found in Bali may be son of Ukrainian crime figure

27 February 2026 15:12

Indonesian authorities are investigating the discovery of dismembered human remains found by locals on the island of Bali, which officials suspect may belong to Igor Komarov, the son of a high-profile Ukrainian organized crime figure.

Komarov had been declared missing following a suspected abduction on February 15. While a definitive identification is pending the results of a formal autopsy, investigators are operating under the working hypothesis that the victim is the missing Ukrainian national, Kumparan News reports.

A primary lead in the identification process is a distinctive tattoo featuring Roman numerals found on the victim’s arm.

Comprehensive DNA analysis is currently being conducted to provide a conclusive match.

The remains were stumbled upon by local residents during their morning exercise.

Recovered fragments—including the head, right leg, upper torso, and internal organs—were in an advanced state of decomposition.

Preliminary forensic assessments suggest the victim had been deceased for more than three days prior to the discovery. This timeline is critical as investigators attempt to reconstruct the events following the victim's disappearance earlier this month.

"The investigative team is awaiting formal forensic results before confirming the identity, though the physical markings align with the description of the kidnap victim," an official statement suggested.

This gruesome discovery follows a string of reports alleging that unidentified assailants have been targeting the families of prominent Eastern European figures residing in Indonesia. Earlier this month, reports surfaced regarding the coordinated kidnapping of several sons of Ukrainian "underworld authorities" on the island, raising concerns over targeted transnational crime.
