Media: Germany to invest billions in civil protection
Germany plans to significantly strengthen its civil defence and population protection systems amid growing security threats, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said in an interview with Bild.
Dobrindt stated that Germany is reinforcing protection of the population and taking a tougher stance on hybrid threats, while also expanding support for voluntary emergency response services.
He added that military and civilian structures will be more closely integrated in order to improve national resilience and security.
According to a government draft cited by Bild, authorities are preparing a programme worth around €10 billion. The funds are expected to be allocated to equipment purchases, infrastructure development, staffing, and the introduction of new technologies, including for the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW).
The report also noted that by 2029, Germany aims to acquire 1,000 specialised vehicles and 110,000 field beds.
