Media: Hezbollah orders members to confront Lebanese army if it interferes
Hezbollah has instructed its members to confront the Lebanese army if it attempts to interfere with the group’s activities, according to a source familiar with the matter who spoke to The Jerusalem Post.
“The instruction is very clear: if the Lebanese army attempts to dismantle a position or prevent rocket fire, confront them,” the source said.
The reported directive comes as the Lebanese government has recently begun taking measures against Iranian nationals and members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the country. Among the steps announced, Lebanon said Iranian citizens will now be required to obtain a visa to enter the country. Authorities have also designated the IRGC as an illegal organisation and expelled several senior Iranian officials.
Lebanon’s actions follow pressure from Israel, which has called on Beirut to act against Iranian regime members operating on Lebanese territory.
Despite these moves, the source who spoke with the Post said there are no indications that the Lebanese government is preparing significant action against Hezbollah itself.
“We see some steps here and there, but real and effective action still doesn’t appear to be on the horizon,” the source said.
An Israeli source also told The Jerusalem Post that United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka is expected to arrive in Israel on March 9 amid the escalating tensions. The visit would mark the first mediation effort aimed at halting the fighting.
