Media: Hungary blocks draft document on military aid to Ukraine
Hungary has blocked a draft document on security guarantees and new military aid to Ukraine at a meeting of EU ambassadors on February 28.
Budapest “rejected a draft document on Ukraine containing language on security guarantees that the community can provide to Kiev, as well as on a new package of military aid,” Caliber.Az reports, citing Politico.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has consistently opposed EU initiatives aimed at providing military support to Ukraine. In May 2024, Hungary vetoed measures that would have facilitated billions in military aid to Ukraine, causing dismay among other EU countries.
On February 24, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that Hungary would not agree to the EU's allocation of tens of billions of euros more in military aid to Ukraine and would oppose a hasty decision to extend individual sanctions against Russian individuals and companies.
