Trump's press secretary denies change in US position on Iran regime change
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on June 23 dismissed suggestions that President Donald Trump’s recent comments signaled a shift in US policy toward regime change in Iran.
Speaking to reporters, Leavitt addressed remarks made by the president last night on Truth Social, regarding the regime chnage in Iran, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
“The President’s posture and our military posture has not changed,” Leavitt said. “The President was just simply raising a question that I think many people around the world are asking — if the Iranian regime refuses to give up their nuclear program or engage in talks … if they refuse to engage in diplomacy moving forward, why shouldn’t the Iranian people rise up against this brutal terrorist regime?”
“That’s a question the President raised last night,” she added. “But as far as our military posture, it hasn’t changed.”
Leavitt further noted that there have been both “public and private messages sent to the Iranians” since the night of June 21.
Earlier, the US president wrote a post on Truth Social adressing whether the US attacks on Iran's nuclear sites were aimed at a regime change in Iran, saying that “it’s not politically correct to use the term ‘Regime Change,’ but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!!”
