Media: Israel, Syria close to signing security agreement
Israel and Syria are moving toward signing a security agreement, Independent Al-Arabiya reports.
Under the terms being discussed, Damascus would commit to preventing the use of Syrian territory for strikes against Israel, refrain from deploying heavy weaponry in the country’s south, bar Iran’s return, and expand the buffer zone.
In exchange, Israel would recognise the legitimacy of the Syrian government and pledge not to interfere in Syria’s internal affairs.
According to the outlet, both sides are seeking to finalise the agreement in the coming days.
A key meeting is scheduled for September 17 in London between Israel’s Minister of Strategic Planning Ron Dermer and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani. The talks are expected to take place in the presence of U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye and Washington’s Special Envoy for Syria, Tom Barrack.
