Media: Orbán allies moving assets abroad after election defeat
Close allies of former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán have reportedly begun transferring assets abroad following his defeat in parliamentary elections, according to The Guardian, citing sources within the Fidesz party.
The report claims that financial flows are being directed to countries including Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Australia and Singapore. It also alleges that private jets departing from Vienna have been used to move what sources described as “assets”, while some officials are reportedly seeking visas for the United States, with the intention of working in networks linked to the MAGA movement associated with US President Donald Trump.
Opposition figures claim the amounts involved could reach tens of billions of forints. Peter Magyar, leader of the Tisza Party, has accused oligarchs connected to the former ruling party of attempting to conceal wealth accumulated during Orbán’s tenure. He has called for measures to detain those involved in asset transfers, warned against purchasing property linked to Fidesz-affiliated individuals, and pledged to tackle corruption and cronyism.
