Media: Trump rules out mending ties with Musk
US President Donald Trump has ruled out any possibility of repairing his fractured relationship with Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of X, Tesla, and SpaceX.
The fallout between the two high-profile figures, which erupted publicly on social media earlier this week, now appears to be final, Caliber.Az reports, citing Trump's interview with NBC News.
When asked directly if he wished to reconcile with Musk, Trump responded bluntly: “No.”
Pressed on whether he considered the relationship over, he added, “I would assume so, yeah.” The comments represent Trump’s most extensive remarks since the clash with Musk unfolded on platforms X and Truth Social.
Despite the feud, Trump claimed it had helped unify the Republican Party: “I think the Republican Party is more unified than ever.” Trump said he had no intention of contacting Musk. “I’m too busy doing other things,” he said. “I have no intention of speaking to him.”
The president also criticized Musk for what he perceived as a lack of respect for the presidency. “I think it’s a very bad thing, because he’s very disrespectful. You could not disrespect the office of the President,” Trump stated.
The tension escalated further when Trump warned of possible retaliation if Musk financially supports Democratic candidates in opposition to Republicans backing the GOP’s sweeping budget bill.
“If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that,” Trump said in a phone interview, though he declined to specify what those consequences would be. “He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that,” he added.
