Media: US state secretary to visit Qatar Amid Israeli strike on Doha
US Secretary of State Marc Rubio will visit Qatar on September 16 for an international gathering over Israel's recent airstrike on Doha.
The visit will take place amid international outrage following an Israeli airstrike on Hamas representatives in Doha, which disrupted talks to end the war in the Gaza Strip, as reported by The Washington Post, citing sources.
Israeli airstrike targeting Hamas representatives in Doha resulted in the deaths of five negotiators, significantly undermining U.S.-mediated ceasefire negotiations for the Gaza conflict, according to statements from Hamas and Qatari authorities on September 9, 2025.
The action, condemned by Qatar and Egypt as a breach of international law and sovereignty, has strained diplomatic relations with Israel and diminished prospects for resolving the ongoing conflict, which has claimed over 64,000 lives.
Rubio is expected to hold talks with senior Qatari officials to discuss the impact of the attack, regional security and prospects for a peace settlement.
The official agenda for the visit has not yet been disclosed, but diplomats believe the trip is aimed at reducing tensions between key US allies in the region.
