Member states to offer EC tools to limit export of Ukrainian agricultural products

The neighboring countries of Ukraine - the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland have agreed on a joint position on the problem of the export of Ukrainian agricultural products and are ready to introduce tools that restrict the import of "specific goods", said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Poland, Robert Telus.

On April 14, representatives of these countries at a meeting developed a joint vision of the situation, identified possible tools to limit supplies from Ukraine. These findings will be contained in their letter to the European Commission, Interfax reports.

After the meeting, Telus said at a briefing that he had held online negotiations with the Minister of Agropolitics of Ukraine Mykola Solsky.

“We want to sign a document by which we will stop importing grain from Ukraine to Poland. We still need to work out the technical details,” he said, adding that before the signing of the document, there will be more than one conversation with the Ukrainian counterpart.

Telus recalled that the import of Ukrainian grain with unloading in Poland has already been stopped, but its transit is still allowed. However, the Polish authorities, he said, want to "secure Poland." “I must emphasize that we continue to refuse transit. Corridors of solidarity (formed by the European Union for the export of agricultural products from Ukraine - IF) should work. We need to help Ukraine, but in a way that is not costly for Poland,” the minister said.

Earlier, the European Union to exempt agricultural products from Ukraine from duties eventually led to a glut of local markets and lower prices. This causes discontent among European farmers.

Ukrainian grains and oilseeds enter and remain in unprecedented quantities in EU Member States bordering Ukraine. In addition, the Ukrainian agro-industrial complex began to export a large amount of poultry meat, eggs and honey to Europe, the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture commented on the situation.
