US, Syrian, Jordan officials meet in Amman to discuss Syria’s future
A tripartite meeting was held in Jordan between Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, Jordanian officials, and US envoy Tom Barrack to discuss the ongoing situation in war-torn Syria and explore pathways for reconstruction.
According to a statement from Jordan’s Foreign Ministry, the talks focused on addressing Syria’s current challenges and supporting efforts to rebuild the country on “foundations that guarantee its security, stability, and sovereignty,” Caliber.Az reports, citing Arabic media.
The meeting marks a significant diplomatic engagement aimed at fostering cooperation between the United States, Syria, and Jordan amid the prolonged conflict and humanitarian crisis affecting Syria.
Al Arabiya’s correspondent in Jordan reported that the discussions also included ways to facilitate stability in the region through collaborative efforts.
Syria has been devastated by nearly 14 years of civil war, culminating in the ouster of President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024. The country’s economy is in ruins, with the United Nations estimating post-war reconstruction costs at over $400 billion.
