FM: Ukraine rules out territorial concessions to Russia
Ukraine will not consider any scenarios involving the ceding of territory to Russia in exchange for ending the war, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on August 12.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Kyiv with his Czech counterpart Jan Lipavský, Sybiha was responding to a question regarding recent comments from the White House about possible concessions, Caliber.Az reports per Ukrainian media.
“President Zelenskyy has already provided a public response, and that response is the Constitution of Ukraine,” Sybiha said.
“The Constitution contains all the answers to your question. Ukraine seeks a just, comprehensive and lasting peace based on the UN Charter and international law.”
He stressed that the immediate priority was establishing a ceasefire, which would serve as a foundation for further negotiations.
Sybiha recalled that five months ago, Ukraine had accepted U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for an unconditional truce and was now awaiting a similar commitment from Moscow.
“Of course, we also expect U.S. engagement and leadership in this process, and we are grateful for these efforts,” the minister added.
